The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Foundation (HCSOF) is pleased to announce its support of and the recent launch of the HCSO Homeless Outreach Team (H.O.T.) pilot program.
The H.O.T. will focus on providing a more efficient path to directly match collaborative community services with high risk homeless individuals within the community – including veterans and individuals with substance abuse and mental health challenges. Current estimates indicate that there are currently 4,500 homeless individuals living in the unincorporated areas of Harris County. A coalition of community based service providers partnering with the HCSO are anticipated to provide access to housing, medical care, substance abuse treatment and mental health care resources.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Foundation has generously allocated funds for the purchase of essential vehicles and equipment to support this program. This donation was possible with generous financial donations in support this initiative and by approval of the Commissioners Court.
The vehicles, including a transportation van, ATV mule, and equipment and supplies will directly impact the efficiency and safety of the HCSO H.O.T. Deputies as they engage with many of the area’s homeless, especially within the more rural areas of the county.
